Many times we read in scripture that those who a closest, are the ones that betray. We not only have to watch for danger from without but also from within the ecclesia's. The dangers from within are very often more subtle. David writes in the Psalms [prophetic as we know of Jesus] Psalm 55 v 12-14 "For it was not an enemy that reproached me .. it was thou mine equal .. we took sweet counsel together." How bitter the betrayal must have been for David, that his friend should associate himself with his enemies. How much more bitter the betrayal of Jesus by Judas. But we do not any less betray Jesus, than did Judas, if we go astray, teaching and practising false doctrine.

We cannot go beyond the principles of scripture for as Jeremiah warns, Jeremiah 17v9 " The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked" We can convince ourselves black is white, but we cannot deceive God who sees the heart. We either obey His commands or we do not, there is no middle path to take. Jesus said very plainly "You remain in my love IF you obey my commands." Again we can recall words of David: Psalm 127 v 1 "Unless the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it." If we do not build this living temple according to the pattern and type shown, it will not please God. Paul warns that if we follow any other gospel, it will not save. Therefore if we allow false doctrine and practice to pollute the ecclesias, we in effect allow 'another gospel'. We fail to build according to the pattern shown.

The early ecclesias were beset by false teachers and like Israel before them they failed to separate themselves, either from those from within who turned aside, or from the influences of the nations about them. This process is nothing new and ultimately has led to the plethora of Christian churches and beliefs that are in the world.

Can we as brethren and sisters in Christ consider ourselves above reproach - certainly not! We are just as prone as Israel and the early Christians to stray. The many errors that have crept into the Christadelphian ecclesias over the years are testimony to this fact. Whilst errors remain, we MUST remain separate from those who believe and those who fellowship such errors.

So think about and meditate upon these verses.....
